Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike.

I love heavy metal, and everything about Brutal Legend spoke to me. Unfortunately, not everything about the game pans out for the best. I really would've preferred that the game was just an action-adventure game, with more of an emphasis on 1 vs many combat. The RTS mechanics are okay at best, and while I thought their implementation was extremely creative and fun, the RTS gameplay itself ranges from boring to frustrating at points. Still, there's so much about this game that I love (how could I not be fond of a game with Ozzy Osborne and Lemmy Kilmister in it???), and my buttcheeks are clenched in the hope for a sequel.

I fucking love metal. This game's OST and its first hours it's what I remember most fondly. Everything else is decent, rushed or straight up bothering. This is NOT the way you tackle RTS. The campaign never absorbs you around the other two factions, so you are never compelled to even try multiplayer, something RTS games have been doing since their conception. It's a cool game, but I really mean it when the 'heavy metal' novelty is the best you can get from it.

Brutal Legend Game

Brutal Legend sets itself up as as a really cool action-adventure game before dissolving into a dull RTS about a third of the way through. Still the world design and art design is incredible and there's some really cool ideas here that are ultimately undercut by EA rushing the game out before it could be finished. I'm not joking here it feels like a whole third of the game is missing. It's still an otherwise decent game but I will always feel bitter when I think about it.
